Dr. Peter Nickerson, who received MMSF funding in 1998 and 2000, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada – one of the country’s highest honours.

Vice-Provost of Health Sciences and Dean of the Max Rady College of Medicine and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Nickerson is a transplant nephrologist recognized throughout the world for his groundbreaking research on kidney transplantation.

“It is an immense honour to be appointed to the Order of Canada,” Nickerson told UM Today. “It is a great privilege to have my life’s work recognized, which I could not have accomplished without the hard work of countless colleagues and collaborators over the years.”  

In 1998, Dr. Nickerson and a team of three other researchers received funding for their project, “The role of urine MT and IR spectroscopy in the diagnosis of acute renal allograft rejection.” And in 2000, he was part of a team that received funding for their project, “Actinic prurigo: Cytokine gene polymorphism analysis in a Manitoba First Nation and Nunavut Inuit population."
